Severn River Lifestyle

The Severn River is located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland and impacts greatly on the lifestyle of the residents. The river flows into the Chesapeake Bay and doesn’t just offer recreation, but a home for the United States Naval Academy as well. In 1911 the Severn River Association was formed to help protect this 14-mile waterway.

Although short, this river has a long and rich history that has helped to shape the current Anne Arundel County it runs through. This river brought its first settlers to the area in 1649. The Europeans that built their home on the land of the north shore called their town Providence. Anne Arundel was one of those initial settlers and soon became the namesake for the county.

As of 2012, Anne Arundel County was home to almost half a million residents. This area is conveniently located between Baltimore and Washington DC, making it very convenient for those who work in both locations. Anne Arundel County is proud of their rich history and invites visitors to tour the Galesville Heritage Museum, Historical Electronics Museum and Hartge Nautical Museum.
