Live on the Waterfront in Talbot County, MD

Bordered to the west by Chesapeake Bay, Talbot Country presents numerous options for living right on the waterfront. Talbot County is located on the eastern shore of Maryland; with a population of approximately 38,000, it has a rich history dating back from before 1661. Its name comes from the wife of Sir Robert Talbot, Lady Grace Talbot. Within the county lies the Choptank River; it was named for a tribe of Indians, prior inhabitants of the area before it was settled by the English. With such an interesting heritage, there are many places within the county that are in the National Register of Historic Places. More than 600 miles of shoreline, set with charming villages and small town sophistication set Talbot County apart. With the oldest private ferry in the country dating from 1683, the ferry began running again, after ceasing service during the American Revolution. Resuming service in 1836, it has continued since then.

Picturesque hamlets abound, and St. Michaels beckons to the visitors with alleys and cottages adjacent to Victorian homes. Gifts and art as well as crafts can be found within its quaint shops. Pottery, fashions and art for one's new waterfront home can easily be found here. Spas and restaurants can be discovered, and the area gained a reputation from Hollywood when two movies were filmed near St. Michaels. Easton is another town for shopping, with home decor, boutiques and art galleries.

For the active outdoor enthusiast and the whole family, sports such as fishing, golfing, sailing, tennis, bicycling, horseback riding, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, boat nature tours and more can be found. Pontoon boats can be rented, as well as wave runners and motor scooters. Chesapeake Lighthouse tours are given, and the whole family can learn about the interesting heritage of the lighthouse. Easton offers to residents and visitors its prized Nature Trail. Visit a Talbot County winery by boat, car or bicycle; the Little Ashby Vineyards is located on the banks of the Miles River. Or take the family and friends to the Old Wye Mill, a working and water-powered mill that contains a museum relating to its importance in the county and the nation.
